Borders’ Perks Club give members more than discounts on books

You are familiar with bookstore loyalty programs.  Members get extra discounts off of books and merchandise, in store and online.  But usually those discounts are only on things sold by the bookstores.  However, Borders’ Perks Club offers discounts on daily deals from a variety of national retailers.  In addition, members can earn points from purchases made at participating  retailers that can be redeemed on purchases. The basic Perks Club membership is free.  In fact, you will receive a gift just for signing up.  Perks Club members get a number of benefits on purchases at Borders stores, both online and on site. These include:

• 30% discount on hardcover best sellers
• Free shipping on online orders of $25 or more
• $5 in Borders Buck when you achieve $150 in qualifying purchases
• A FREE café beverage for every five you purchase and
• A gift on your birthday

In addition, members have access to more than 20,000 Perks’ offers, with new ones added every day.  Members earn WOW points  every time they take advantage of one of the Perks’ offers.  WOW points are credited to a member’s account, and can be used to buy any Borders’ Perks offers.  The points never expire. Perks’ offers come in a wide range of categories including local offers.  There are also discounts on travel, restaurants, electronics, and items for the home, apparel, and pets.  Perks Club member also have access to National Overwhelming Offers (OOs), which according to the website is like “Black Friday Deals, Every Day.”  (OOs) offer 50% off or more on online purchases. They unlock throughout the day as more people reserve the offer. The OO  deals are only good for a day, and supplies are limited. When the check-in threshold is reached, it triggers a countdown.  Members are notified and must complete the purchase before the clock runs out. Perks members also participate in the Star Advantage program, with start status going as high as five starts. Members progress through star status when they earn WOW points.  For a 5 start status, members must earn 5,000 WOW points.   Five start members earn 50% more WOW points on every purchase and get a five second head start on OO offers. Recent OO included $100 for a $200 gift voucher for Macy’s department store; $50 for a $100 shopping spree at Shoes Online.com.; two movie tickets through Fandango for $10; $25 for $50 gift card at Home Depot, and $50 off of $100 at BlueNile.com.
